Comments:
I was a 'Ninety Day Wonder' (National Service) according to the regulars in the mess. They were known as 'National Hero's' to the few of us aboard. Joined ship at Bahrain after my very first air flight fm UK to join my first ship. Learn a lot damn quick or suffer! Prior to National Service I joined the RNVWR in London and got the basics in Signals and intro sea work on a minesweeper.
Very nearly extended my service to 9 years when the ship decommisioned in the UK but was gaffed by my new girl friend who quickly weaned me off swinging in a hammock!
I have never forgotton those unique months living and working aboard a small warship in the company of great individuals, the like of which, sadly, I have never met since.

All made possible because I joined the RNVWR before I was called up for my National Service and thus was moved over to the RN roster or I would certainly been a 'brown job'. Am very proud to have served in the Royal Navy if only for a few years.

Was a very good Ship's company then. I remember hearing about President Kennedy's assination on the SRE one morning when on our way to the Maldives. Had 8 great weeks there which people pay a fortune for holidays there now.

Have been trying for some time to find info. and picture of HMS Enard Bay..Understanding that she has gone where all good ship's go after serving their time. I to am a relic of the past whome the one above is not quite ready for and the one below has put double lock's on the gates to block my passage.
